Short Stories
Week 1: So far we are learning about
- The PLOT GRAPH
- introduction, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling and resolution
- 4 types of CONFLICT
- one versus oneself
- one versus another
- one versus Nature
- one versus society
- Narration
- 1st person; is a character in the story, uses the pronoun "I" "me" and "myself
- 3rd person: not a character in the story, knows what all other characters are thinking and doing, uses the pronouns "she/he" "they/them" "him'her"
- Characterization
- the way the character is described to the reader. Refer to the Character Traits sheet
- Atmosphere
- the overall mood. The emotions and feelings through description of setting and objects
- determines the emotional experience the reader will have while reading the story
- EXAMPLES: spooky, romantic, suspenseful, gloomy
- Theme
- the author's message or life lesson
- specific to story but applies to everyone; universal
- EXAMPLES: "Don't judge a book by its cover. " " Appearances can be deceiving". "You should be careful who you trust."
